Known by his stage name “Thehighwaystory”, Tobi Adekanmbi is a solo musician based out of Rockland County, New York State. Taking inspiration from the music he grew up listening, by bands and artists like Linkin Park and Michael Jackson, and his current inspirations like Kanye West, Lil Peep and Juice WRLD, Adekanmbi creates his own distinct world in his music, effortlessly blending elements from r&b, emo hip-hop and rock. Adekanmbi debuted with his single “Talk Less (Listen More)” in 2019 and released his debut album “Days We Waited” in 2020, which was a compilation of 7 songs. Today, we’re listening to his 2021 single, “Pleasure“.
“Pleasure” is the first track of Adekanmbi’s new 15-track album titled “I KNOW YOU HATE ME..I HATE ME TOO”. Previously released as a single in 2021, this song is a strong statement of the quality expected from the album. Although “Pleasure” is the first track of the album, it was the second track to be released as a single, following “Resist”, with a more r&b inclined sound. With a punchy beat and aggressive 808s, “Pleasure” is a passionate groove. Lyrically the song is about a toxic relationship where you know someone is not good for you but it’s difficult to let them go, so you painfully hold on. The melodies and the production are very apt with expressing the aggression associated with this feeling of helplessness.
Starting off with a hip-hop sound for the album, the track “Pleasure” curiously draws the listener in, towards a fine blend of rock, owing to Adekanmbi’s Linkin Park inspiration.
