DAMIEN – 2 out of 10 | RAW DARK ANTHEM

DAMIEN is notorious for mixing politics with social and personal themes into their dark music.  In the latest single ‘2 out of 10’, DAMIEN sheds light on a very relevant social issue today – rating of others based on appearance. This can lead to people undervaluing themselves and start looking for others for validation. This is the primary essence of rock and roll – to not care what anybody thinks; no matter how raw or vulgar you are!

The prophet of prose and alt electro-rock musician DAMIEN is out of Ipswich and is creating some revolutionary music that leaves the listener thinking about how they’ve been caught in a web of social lies. With their peculiar yet thought-provoking approach to dark music themes, DAMIEN keeps nourishing us with their unique essence and trying to open our minds and heart to their points of view.

This single ‘2 out of 10’, is different from DAMIEN’s usual heavy electronic sound and has a more pop-rock approach and influence that will have you chanting its chorus in no time. “I’m a 2 out of 10 and I am looking for a 9”. Dammit! I can’t get it out of my head already! With the stability of pop and the use of repetition, DAMIEN somehow achieves to be both catchy and aggressive without losing interest. The heavy bass lines continue to make a statement, catalyzed by the violent groove and some really interesting electronic elements.

The song starts off with the chanting of the chorus and goes on until the end. My favorite part is when he screams “Scream” – a distorted squeal that just makes you get up and get out with slogans protesting against the Government! It’s a power packed single that is weirdly dark yet themed to be socially beneficial. The paradox itself creates the appeal for me. A real electrifying rock and roll track with a lot of energy and the power to bring the roof down! This track is definitely not a “2 out of 10”.
