Sebastian Bonner – Escape | Reverie

Escape from Sebastian Bonner is a lo-fi, bluesy song. It is dark, complex, and moody in its lyricism. At the same time, its composition and arrangement are so smooth and sexy. It is certainly the song to play for your date after a glass of wine.

Sebastian Bonner calls himself a Conduit.

Conduit, noun
a. a channel for conveying water or other fluid.

I believe Sebastian Bonner thinks of himself as a medium of expression and art. It flows through him while it looms larger than his being. He is consumed by it. I draw this conclusion after hearing his passionate, delicious voice on the track Escape. And the foil for these vocals is nothing but his art.

The song is a cry into the void, with the awareness that the sinusoidal ends only in the nothingness. And with this comes a wild recklessness, much like trumpets (which he plays!) that flow lazily and jazzily on the bridge. Pushing back on the nostalgia is reverb on the strings, and dreamy background vocals.

With a dramatic sonic buildup and a falsetto that echos the turbulence in his heart, Sebastian Bonner wraps you in his whirlwind as the song ends. He is trying to escape, once again, from his confusing senses and an impending sense of doom. Alas, it seems he is consumed, after all.

Finally, the song Escape stands confident at runtime of five minutes, the whole of which is an immersive experience. And I call it a flex, but I do bow down with goosebumps all over me.
