Dan Zimmerman – Carry You | Tragic

Dan Zimmerman is a queer singer-songwriter based in Brooklyn. With his music, he explores lust, loss, and loneliness as a young LGBTQ+ adult in New York City, capturing the energy of adolescence and radical self-discovery. He released his first single, “Soldiers” in 2021, followed by another single titled “Body” in the same year. Both the singles had an electro-pop sound and a lot of nostalgia.

Dan is back with his third single “Carry You”, this time with a different sound. “Carry You” is a heartfelt piano ballad that the songwriter wrote after losing his close friend and songwriting partner to cancer, at a tragically young age of 26. The song was released on 3rd February, his friend’s birthday. This new side of Dan is really passionate, with a soulful melody and melancholic lyrics laced with a sense of nostalgia. The gloomy piano arrangement, along with his deep, painful voice very accurately expresses the emotions behind the lyrics – the emotions he must be feeling when he experienced the heart-wrenching loss.

This hauntingly beautiful track was produced by Torna Music. The strings and arrangement were done by Tiger Darrow, and mastered by Mike Tierney. The way this song gives such a marvellous tribute to Dan’s friend speaks volumes about his songwriting skills. “Carry You” reveals a new layer to Dan’s music and leaves you wondering what else does the artist have under his sleeves. The song makes you want to listen to more of Dan’s music, and it would be interesting to see what sound he leans into further.
