Whether Balloon – Transiently | alt-pop

Boston based Alt-pop duo Whether Balloon just released their newest EP called Transiently. This indie, alt-pop, folk duo consist of artists DKNTL and Zaid Khan. With a calming, bedroom pop sort of vibe, this EP is an intersection of the two artist’s styles. Consisting of 4 songs with a 12-minute run-time, Transiently is the perfect name for this EP.

The album with the Title track, Transiently. The duo specializes in creating these fleeting, calm soundscapes that let you immerse yourself in them. With the kazoo and an electro/dance-pop beat, this song is a bright and upbeat tune that immediately lifts your mood. It also gives a very 2010 electro-pop vibe. You can immediately sense and identify the levels of intersection with the first song. The hook has a beautiful piano accompaniment that keys you in. Pun intended. This song is very rooted in new age alt-pop and is definitely music to sore ears.

The next song on the EP is called, A-Okay. The song opens up with the soft vocals singing the ‘I’d pull my hair out if I had any left..’ Soon the harmony kicks in and we see a great juxtaposition of the duo’s voices. What definitely gives me a little bit of a Coldplay vibe, the song is an affirmation. The song is playful and the lyrics are witty.

Cold Compress is the third song on their EP. On a similar vibe as A-Okay, this song is deeper dive into the beauty that Whether Balloon’s harmonies are. The song seems to have layers that reference to the previous songs on the EP. The duo have managed to create a quirky balance to both of their style and really create a transient space for their music.

The last song on the EP is called Paradise. This track is more unplugged than the other songs on the EP. With simmering harmonies and a dominant percussion pattern, Paradise pushes the EP into new territory as compared to the other three tracks. This track is breaking through similar musical areas as Tame Impala and Alt-J.

Transiently by Whether Balloon is definitely an interesting listen fits into a mellow, alt-indie-pop vibe. They are quirky and fun to listen to and we look forward to hearing more music from them.
