There are many kinds of musicians. Some try to recreate a style they like, some pivot from there into something of their own and there are others who just create something completely new. AJ Porter is one such musician who creates his own style. He is a singer-songwriter based out of Manchester and his music is sophisticated and wacky, with electronic influences, guitar playing, deep lyrics with some unique melodies.
Disappointments begins with a heavy kick drum. The vocals come in first with a hat playing in the back. As soon as the guitar sets in, the song takes form. What a unique style! That’s really the only thought that pops up in my mind. I’m not able to put my finger on the genre but I’m really impressed by the arrangement and style that Porter has used to create this wonderful single.
The guitar is a really Important factor in his music. It creates the ambience and general mood of the track. Starting off as the primary melody for the track, it is perfectly accentuated by the wobbling bassline thrown into the mix. The percussions are also mixed really well and aren’t standing out in the mix but aren’t masked either. Talking about the production quality doesn’t do justice to the amazing singing ability of AJ Porter. No matter how good everything else is, the charm is all in the vocals.
AJ Porter has done a really great job with this cool new single that is wacky and out of the box.
