Nathaniel Paul – Turpentine | Mellowed Relaxer

Nathaniel Paul is an American, indie musician. He forms one half of The Bergamot, an indie project started by Paul and his high school sweetheart. The singer-songwriter and producer cites Mac DeMarco, Tame Impala, The Beach Boys, Wilco and Dave Matthews Band as some of his influences. Additionally, Paul’s music has made it onto Spotify playlists as well as into the press. His groundbreaking use of drums and synth have been recognised by multiple journalists.

Turpentine is the latest addition to the Nathaniel Paul repertoire. The track features some incredible sounds and atmospheres. With a strong resemblance to Mac DeMarco, the track features this hypnotic drum that keeps the rhythm steady. Although the various psychedelic elements really capture your attention, it is almost as if you’re on a ride and things keep popping in and out of your line of sight. However, the track itself is more relaxed and toned down from the psychedelic nature of artists like Tame Impala and The Beach Boys. I really enjoy how smooth Nathaniel Paul’s vocals are on the entire track. Additionally, they act as this guide throughout this journey on the track. Moreover, the track gives me a similar feeling I get when I listen to the more toned down Gorillaz and Blur tracks.

Nathaniel Paul is turning it up with his music. Having been releasing music for some time now, the American indie artist is making giant strides towards furthering his career.

I listen to and make silly noises while analysing why people behave the way they do.
