Gadagem – Tails | Extraterrestrial Downtempo

Known for their blending in trippy electronics into downtempo music, Bangkok-based duo Gadagem describes their genre as ‘creepy pop’. They recently came out with their second single, “Tails” that showcases their unorthodox, intriguing, yet highly engaging sound. The combination of disco, electronica and some elements of pop make their latest single seem like a perfect track for a video game-themed alien music video.

The track begins with a sawtooth bass melody over a simple kick-snare pattern in the intro along with some distorted, slightly weird vocals. Right from the start, there’s a sort of extraterrestrial vibe present that reels the listener in. A plethora of synths fill up the frequency spectrum with dark atmospheric textures, but what really stands out are the somewhat happy melodies in the transitions. As the track progresses, a few drums fills make the groove more interesting, carrying the song to the vibrant chorus section.

“Tails” has multiple distinct verses that flow into one another seamlessly with a bunch of smooth shifts, owing to the heavy synth instrumentation. Gadagem sure is a unique duo for sure and it doesn’t seem like they adhere to any particular genre while making music. Their creative production style and unique vocal delivery make their music stand out from a crowd of songs that sound all too similar nowadays. I’m sure their fans are eager to hear more from them soon because I definitely am!
