With a relatively young discography, Brooklyn-born hip-hop artist Breon S.Y.N.D.E.L showcases all the signs of mature and emotive lyricism not akin to his nascent musical timeline.
The rapper appears out of the shadows since the release of his third consecutive 2021 single Buggin, appearing after the release of his previous two singles DHB (Focus) and Go Ghost! With a notoriously urban groove and a mellow autotuned vocal performance, Buggin appears both melancholic and haunting, driving across the listener’s ears with emotions of lovesickness, regret, betrayal and self-credence. The track manages to tip its hat to some of the most classic tricks of the genre S.Y.N.D.E.L has chosen to participate in, particularly with the dulcet trip hop ambience that is both psychedelic and introspective, decorated across the track with adequate hi-hats and drum-and-bass.
Breon’s vocal performance in itself is interestingly indicative of his fondness towards some of the leading contemporary acts in the psychedelic hip-hop genre such as Shabazz Palaces and Gonjasufi, giving it a redefined personalized spin that should come to emerge as his own unique delivery style. Breon S.Y.N.D.E.L is on his way to consolidating some of the defining charts of hip-hop this new year, and the world would not be better for it if we miss the evolution.
