Tommy Blu – Happy Birthday | Pop and Power

Following the release of his well-received debut single ‘Congratulations’ earlier this year, singer-songwriter Tommy Blu recently came out with an alternative pop track called ‘Happy Birthday.’ Known for combining sounds old and new, the artist’s music showcases an eclectic mix of mellow vocals, infectious rhythms and hard-hitting electronics. In his latest release, he explores the disappointment a person might face on their birthday, a reminder that an entire year has passed, and the dreams and desires they had still seem far off.

Inspired by artists like Foster The People and Beck, Tommy incorporates engaging beats and solid vocal melodies in this intricately produced song, making it a pleasure to listen to right off the bat. The just over three-minute-long track begins with a catchy electric guitar riff over rattling percussion and a simple kick drum pattern. ‘Happy Birthday’ seems to follow Tommy’s introspective journey and he tells his story in an atmosphere of optimism. The song is made even more relatable and engaging by his emotive performance and deep lyrics. – “I’m not myself when I’m with you but I need to be/Feeling alone and trying to forget all the sh*t that I did then/When I’m not high I can’t fall asleep, no.”

As the track progresses, bass synths and strong beats take over the groove, making the track quite aggressive and energetic in half-time before the final chorus. Tommy ends the track with a bang with a vibrant blend of synthesizers, guitars, exciting percussion and some rich harmonies. A fantastic end to an intriguing and captivating track!
