Charlie Tyler – Surrender The Ghosts | Neo Noir

Maybe there is a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. Walking up the rainbow, brushing past the unicorns and pink clouds, Charlie Tyler playing in the background. I am 100% sure that if there really is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, Surrender the Ghosts is going to be playing all the way there. The tone of the album is dreamy but the lyrics paint a whole other picture. Welcome to the neo noir world of Charlie Tyler.

Charlie Tyler is a 20-year-old English singer songwriter. She was raised in a tiny Cornish village, and an Ellie Goulding concert was her first exposure to music. From that moment on, Charlie set out to become a musician. Her first instrument was a Ukulele and she learnt to play the guitar by herself. This magical pop music she creates is genre defining. Her passion for music has helped her overcome her lack of formal training.

Russel James Williams is the producer and songwriter who works with Charlie Tyler. Together they create these wonderful pieces of pop gold.

‘Surrender the Ghosts’ is the first track of Charlie’s latest EP. This track is what I would call the definition of pop and the signature style of Charlie Tyler. Her music makes you feel like you are in a neo noir animated movie.

The EP picks up with ‘Silent all these years’ and ‘Silver bullet’ that are modern pop gems. I really like the production quality and the guitar work especially in ‘Silver Bullet’. ‘Long way to Fall’ is a vocal masterpiece. I don’t know how the production and the singing go so well to create some angelic vocals that can move any listener’s heart. Accompanied by some heavenly strings, ‘Long way to Fall’ plays with the listeners’ emotion and makes you feel what Charlie went through.

‘Your Biggest Mistake’ seems like the point where the artist is recovering from the previous track. She has vented all her sadness out and starts the next track with a little more energy. ‘Never known’ is the final track of this EP and carries on the same energy. It seems like Charlie has gotten over the pain and is accepting that life must go on either way.

Bursting with the freshness and originality only self-produced music can bring, her first-ever recordings signal the arrival of a significant new British pop artist, destined to conquer the world.
