MiG 15 – Rolling Thunder | Raucous

MiG 15 is James McCluskey (bass), Adam Bray (vocals), James Morris (guitar), and Martin Gordon (drums). Inspired by the fighter jets coming and going from the military bases in San Diego. James McCluskey conceptualized MiG 15 growing up as a teenager there. Adam Bray, the Dustland singer was a major influence on him; and after experimenting with their raucous live sound, James Morris and Martin Gordon joined the band as well.

Delay-laden electric guitar chord progression driven by the upbeat rhythms of the percussion mark the beginning of ‘Rolling Thunder’. Adam Bray’s powerful vocals join in for the first verse, accompanied by handclaps for this compelling pre-chorus. All this leads into the track’s catchy chorus with swirling walls of distortion. The hook comes on really fast with very nice percussions that add a very nice buildup. The spaced-out delayed guitar isn’t just something used in the introduction. You can hear it come and go throughout the track. A raucous electric guitar solo after the second chorus leads perfectly into a bridge before Rolling Thunder’s chorus repeats once more. The track ultimately culminates with a captivating guitar lead.

MiG 15’s latest single, Rolling Thunder, is the bands take on the heavy topic of religion. If something can be asserted without evidence then surely then it can also be dismissed without evidence. This is the argument put forth by the band through this song. The song is the band questioning faith, with a general reluctancy to just believe in any religion.

“Ride like Lightning, crash like thunder”

Rolling Thunder, just like the name suggests, is more raucous than their previous material. The song explores a punkier side of the bands sound. This feels like something that can get the band to connect to newer audiences and please their current fans.
