The Vanities - London

The Vanities – London | Homesick

‘London’ from The Vanities is a jazzy, rock n’ roll song about the city. Wild saxophone highlights and effervescent vocals lend the nostalgic composition a unique flavour. This almost melancholic track is, in sincerity, an ode to one’s home, and the longing to go back. It is safe to say that the song is soundtrack to the city. While it may mean different things to different people, there’s no wrong interpretations – only different versions.

The Vanities’ take on London is dramatic, building up with punctuations and pauses across the compositions. It is commands the room like the vocal style of the lead singer. At the same time, it is sophisticated like the sax that overflows the quiet with grace. Home is often hard to put into words, for it is often very different for everyone. Often there isn’t much that’s romantic about a city when you live in it. Especially when it is as huge and busy as London is. But The Vanities remind you that there is much that might not meet the eye. And its contribution to the realization of the vocalist’s teenage dreams is only one such thing.

The Vanities duo consists of Rhys Bradley on the vocals and guitar, alongside Adam Hill on the bass and keyboard. The song London also features Jack McDougal on that incredible sax, Chris Barber on the drums, Gareth Jones on the piano, alongside background vocals from Jessona & Bambam. Further, the single is currently on the BBC Radio Wales A-List.
