Priya Francis – Swimming | Dreamy

Having released an EP in 2014 and a stream of promising singles since then, Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Priya Francis is back with a soothing new R&B track titled, ‘Swimming’. With captivating melodies, ethereal atmospheres, and a touch of nostalgia, the song plays like a modern soul ballad with confident and moving lyrics.

Priya is no stranger to the R&B scene. Her alt-pop-infused tracks over the years have always been well-received. On ‘Swimming’, she sings about how experiencing certain struggles in your relationships and life make you stronger. At the end of the day, we’re all alone and have to learn how to fight our own battles. Her powerful delivery and smooth vocal runs convey her hard-hitting lyrics brilliantly on this track. – “I don’t mind, eventually, I’ll do it on my own / I won’t lie, it’s hard unlearning everything you know / It’s fine, liked it better when I drove alone”.

In addition to the mellow beats and simple, yet effective instrumentation, the catchy chorus melodies make the track all the more engaging. Priya expresses her introspective journey in a relatable way that is bound to keep you hooked till the very end. The track also features a soft bridge section that builds up just the right amount of tension for the final chorus – a satisfying, laid-back end to a brilliant track.

Known best for her singles ‘Same Wine’ and ‘Tell Me’, Priya seems to have found her signature sound – an exquisite blend of lush synths, solid beats and soaring vocals. Priya continues to deliver impressive performances with another song added to her discography and I am sure the fans are eager to hear more from her soon!
