Davidly – Storm in the Hills | Beats and more

For the last few years, electronic music producer Davidly has been making waves in the Portland music scene. Known best for his debut EP track ‘Me and Myself’, the artist recently released ‘Storm in the Hills’ – his fourth single of the year and an excellent showcase of his signature sound.

“I really really really like your smile / Hear this music play / Got you in another kind of space” – Davidly sings over a mellow electric guitar progression and a few bassy synths as the song begins. His soft and sultry vocals are supported by a slightly aggressive hip-hop beat throughout. Harmonies add some depth to the lead melody in the lush choruses and emphasise the hard-hitting yet melancholic mood of the track.

I quite liked the change in vocal flow across the verses. He recites a story through his intricate lyricism in a very engaging way on this track. Davidly is a master at writing catchy, laid-back melodies, as is evident from his songs like ‘Lover’ and ‘By Your Side (on facetime)’. He has gone for something fresh and familiar on his latest release with addictive beats and unique instrumentation. ‘Storm in the Hills’ is a more gloomy track that is alluring at the same time. A well-produced song you definitely should have on your playlists!
