When it comes to indie rock, Vice Killer has become a name to look out for in the genre. Their previous EP “Alone in this world” showed a lot of promise in the band, thanks to their brilliant storytelling and vocal performances. All they needed to do at that point was to experiment a bit more and add some more diversity to their sound pallete. All this while keeping up their great vocals, lyricism and raw energy. With “Heroine”, I think they successfully do just that.
Formed in July 2020, Vice Killer are a four-piece alternative indie band from County-Durham. The band consists of Thomas Gilling lead vocals/guitar, James Langan lead guitarist, Jack Langan on bass and Lewis Muir on drums.
The band’s most celebrated mode is the fast, literate indie-punk of their first EP which modulated into a, a dramatic sound with raw energy. With the guitars riffling in fuzz like a tidal wave crashing into a canyon, while Thomas Gilling’s vocals just as easily glides through this track, albeit with more rasp to match the track’s vibe.
The new single starts off feeling like an Arctic Monkeys track but moves into the signature Indie rock style of Vice Killer. When it comes to lyricism, Vice Killer do phenomenally well. They really know how to paint a very detailed picture to the listener while still giving them enough room to interpret the lyrics in their own way.
I’m sure the more I listen, the more I will manage to catch new things I didn’t hear or understand from previous listens. As for now, I’m still very happy at how well this single is executed. Just bravo.
