Sub:Om-Unify | Industrial Melody

The confluence of hard rock, electronic and industrial happened for a brief period in the 90’s. Some flourished, some were forgotten. The likes of Rammstein & NIN continue to make music, while the likes of Marilyn Manson continue to make news. Sub:Om filters through the excessive noise and rocks out with their first single on the streaming service, Unify.

Unify will make many musicians proud. It has the dipped-in-dark inspiration of TOOL’s Adam Jones in the riffs, NIN in the use of industrial and they shape the rest. They also do it really well, the running beat almost had me lost in that great riff rhythm. Like MJK from TOOL, the vocalist’s voice is a great contrast to the heavy sound they chase. Unify is an entrance for a band that don’t want a humble beginning, they want their footprint in the concrete.

Also, it isn’t enough being a rock band now. Earlier, people would gush over you and allow you to smash a hotel room and sniff cocaine off the pillows. Not anymore. Sub:Om have got the right idea, with a really alluring webpage and some artwork that was mesmerising to look at. They aren’t just taking a route of chaos & exciting outcomes, they are paving it.

The industrial soul with the alt-rock sensibilities of maybe even the Foos is what makes this song such a great listen. This might as well be considered a teaser for what is to come, maybe their album early 2022.

Self professed metalhead, moderately well read. If the music has soul, it's whole to me. The fact that my bio could have ended on a rhyme and doesn't should tell you a lot about my personality.
