Jeffrey Chan – You Only Want Me When I’m Gone Reflections

Sydney-born singer/songwriter, Jeffrey Chan, recently released a synth-pop track called “You Only Want Me When I’m Gone”. At a very young age, he was introduced to music through piano lessons, and now he combines his classical training along with his love for singing and writing to create modern pop music.

“You Only Want Me When I’m Gone” begins with a melancholic guitar progression that’s looped throughout the song, over a simple kick-snare drum beat. Jeffery’s deep vocals have a unique tone to them, and his vocal delivery seems to be the perfect match for the vibe of the song. In a nutshell, the lyrics are directed at someone who, by words and actions, “messes” with his mind and simply keeps them as a last resort. – “So you say that I’m falling, in your words I’m way behind, and the reasons that you give me mess with my mind / So you want me, you got me, I’m just trying to see why.”

You’d probably expect a big chorus with vocals in the higher registers, but Jeffrey’s bass-y voice does the catchy melody justice. Paired with more low-end dominant harmonies, the drop features a fuller sound with a few synths here and there that will surely get your head moving! The simple production of this track makes it easy on the ears and highlights Jeffrey’s vocals excellently.

Since 2016, Jeffrey Chan has released a bunch of singles and albums wherein he incorporates elements of EDM and retro-pop along with his signature vocal tone. Most of his releases comprise feel-good tracks that are very danceable and engaging for listeners. “You Only Want Me When I’m Gone” is another one added to his discography, and at the rate he’s releasing pop-bangers, I’m sure he has a lot more in store for his fans!
