Sophie Edwards – Feel Again Soon | Darkness of the Setting Sun

Sophie Edwards is up with an original album called ‘Feel Again Soon’, which has five wonderful tracks. The tunes truly calm you down with their lovely lyrics and keep you interested in the deep undertones of such magnificent instrumentation. Each track is quite dynamic, with a structure that is a little out of the ordinary, but it never feels forceful. That is most likely the songwriting’s best effort. The lyrics and melodies appear to be in perfect harmony.

Sophie Edwards, a singer-songwriter who has been a fixture in the Canberra music scene for some years, has recently been pursuing a continuous stream of new songs that she is ready to share. Sophie combines acoustic-driven instrumentation with hard-hitting lyrics to produce a repertoire of emotive, melancholy pop songs, influenced by a variety of genres and styles ranging from folk to jazz and pop. Sophie’s music has been likened to Vera Blue and Meg Mac, and she performs her songs in front of a live audience in a real and sincere way that leaves listeners astonished and wanting more.

Early Bird‘ is the opening song on the album, and it begins with a silky light guitar riff before Sophie comes in sweetly. The delivery of the lyrics is excellent. The ambiance is nicely enhanced by the luscious string arrangements. The piano performance in particular elevates the whole experience, and the precise percussion beat holds the track engaged until the very last second. The atmosphere is especially strong at the bridge, which is bolstered by the vocal harmonies. The track’s overall colour palette is beautiful, however the sombre tones elicit deep thought.

Seconds‘ strikes a hopeful chord. The words are so basic and approachable, yet the concept is so profound. The tune is first held precisely by the guitar strumming. The arrangement is afterwards brilliantly supported by the rhythm design synchronised so well with the muted guitars as the song proceeds. Once again, the vocals are top-notch. The drum pattern, in particular, will keep your head bobbing to the proper beats. The music creates such a powerful atmosphere. Sophie’s powerful vocal delivery might be the reason. You’re led to some strong chords by ‘Afterthought‘. The songs have a deep emotional connection with you. The agony is depicted with such fervour. The arrangement incorporates some pizzicato string strokes, which, for me, perfectly corresponds with the complexity and intensity in the lines. The use of minor 6th in the arrangement was especially striking to me. The message was beautifully presented by utilising the Instruments to their full potential.

Mining on the Moon‘ is a gloomy journey to the moon. The violins add so much to the vibrations, and the piano performance near the end is very captivating. The musicians’ meticulous labour is noticeable throughout the entire album. The lyrics are beautifully crafted, and the analogies immediately conjure up images in your mind. With such fantastic writing, it would undoubtedly make the experience unforgettable. Instruments are arranged in such a way that they are entirely in tune with the words and overall voice timbre.

The album’s concluding song, ‘Next‘, brilliantly depicts the exhilaration and anticipation of experiencing something new. It’s the album’s lone uplifting track and the most enjoyable. The writing is once again excellent, and the sound of the album is consistent throughout. Each song’s arrangement is well planned. The musicians’ outstanding performance only complemented the entire listening experience for the audience. Sophie Edwards has created a great album. I’d want to express my appreciation for her writing efforts in particular. The melody and lyrics are never interrupted. Throughout, they traveled synonymously. Sophie Edwards is undoubtedly here to stay, thanks to her superb composition and sensitive lyrics. She has a lot of potential to provide us some phenomenal songs down the line.
