Bailey Jaxxon – Calculated Lies | Expression

Australian indie-pop artist, Bailey Jaxxon, released his second single, titled, “Calculated Lies” on October 31st. On this track, Jaxxon puts his own twist on the pop genre with a hard bass, energetic vocals, and catchy beats, in an elegant and engaging way.

“Calculated Lies” begins with Jaxxon’s vocals over a common pop-song chord progression played on an organ, along with minimal percussion. A lot of the verse’s soothing feel comes from the simplicity of the production – the sonic space isn’t cluttered at all, which leaves a lot of room for Jaxxon’s emotive vocals to stand out. His lyrics seem to focus on betrayal and the urge to get some answers – “Should’ve known such a clever girl would cover her tracks by now / I’ma give you my case now that I have your attention, see the look on your face when I ask where you really were”.

With relatable lyrics paired with powerful vocal delivery, the expressive and natural tone of Jaxxon’s voice is what stands out most on “Calculated Lies”. Additionally, the 150-second track features a lot of dynamics, especially in the hard-hitting chorus, where all the instruments come together to create a full sound.

Due to the huge selection of pop songs these days, there’s a lot of competition, and many artists don’t get their songs heard in their entirety. One thing that sets Jaxxon’s music apart is that it isn’t too long, effective, and straight to the point. I think that will make his music stand out from the crowd and appeal to a wider audience.
