Singer Scott Helman, whose breakthrough album, “Augusta”, made him a popular artist in Canada since 2016, has unveiled his newest single, “Pretty” – a modern pop track with his signature sound. He has been writing music since he was a young teenager, and at the age of 15, was offered a deal by a record label. Since then, he’s been putting out pop bangers constantly, with two fantastic albums, “Hotel De Ville” and “Nonsuch Park (sa)”, that were both well-received.
Scott Helman has been exploring his limits and abilities as a songwriter for a few years now, and his experiences traveling the world and collaborating with artists such as Alessia Cara and Hunter Hayes, have helped him better his craft. The song “Pretty” tells a relatable story about the uncertainty that comes at the start of a relationship with someone, from a very humble perspective. Scott sings playfully on this track, accompanied primarily by hard-hitting beats and a groovy bassline, along with a few synthesizer melodies. The intricacies in the production of this song, from the mesmerizing harmonies to the array of creative effects processed to perfection, make the track very engaging and exciting.
With confident lyrics and dynamic rhythms, “Pretty” features a variety of compelling choruses. Throughout the song, he sings of the buzz you get when you meet someone special, someone who activates your flirtatious side and reminds you what a thrilling feeling it is to be allured – “All the filthy things you say got me blushing a bit, making me feel so pretty / I just want to look pretty like you do, turning heads when you’re walking down the street..”. Needless to say, Scott has a knack for writing catchy melodies and lyrics, and they work wonderfully with the track’s instrumentation.
Pushing his boundaries in this latest release, Scott seems to be very optimistic in his singing, and I think that is what will resonate well with his fans.
