Brendan Lane – Fame Falls Away (feat. QuesMark) | Funk Rock & matters of the heart

Fame Falls Away by American indie artist Brendan Lane is a funk rock number. Very much contemporary pop blues, somewhere in the mix is an an element of 80’s nostalgia that stands out. There is maraca, juvenile synth vibes, and a playful set of Blues-style keys on the song. Definitely funky, the song is very danceable with a pre-disco vibe. The also features QuesMark, a notoriously silent musician who speaks with his beat drops.

Brendan Lane, the composer and vocalist grew up around inspiring influences. Growing up in Annapolis, Maryland with his father who was a jazz musician, Brendon was surrounded by music since he was a boy. Today, he leads the band Brendan Lane and the Sugar Packets. Just recently, they completed a tour of the East Coast. Further, he released a number of singles through 2020-21, and his EP Sweet Tooth as well.

The song Fame Falls Away is an exciting medley of genres, arranged such that it’s not too far from peppy pop. The hippie opening of the song benefits from the singer’s husky voice lending it a contrast. He even sounds just a touch like John Mayer on the high notes. And I’m conditioned to find that very romantic. Speaking of romantic, so is the content of the song. The artist promises his lover to be the same with them even when the fame, the riches, and luxuries of life fall away.
