Freddie Yates – Walking Alone | Mellow

South-London-based singer-songwriter, Freddie Yates, is a frequent collaborator with the alternative/electronic three-piece band, The Vacant. Freddie stands on his own with his solo material proving his case. Beginning his career as a drummer, Freddie Yates has, since, learned how to play the guitar and synthesizer to add to his musical repertoire. His unique blend of shoegaze, acoustic songwriting, and electronic music definitely appeal to many audiences.

Walking Alone perfectly encapsulates Freddie’s style with acoustic elements and skilful use of his synth. The guitar work holds a brilliant counter-melody to Freddie’s haunting vocals. Meanwhile, the drums keep the rhythm of the track in place with a simple, yet powerful groove. Freddie Yates uses his synth well to create a magnificent soundscape adding in light elements to keep the atmosphere of the track elevated. Freddie’s backing vocals and harmonies add such depth to the track, it’s almost liberating to listen to him alone.

I’m a huge fan of Freddie Yates already. I can’t express how amazing he makes me feel. There’s something so divine about his music that reminds me of artists like Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Robbie Williams. I’d definitely rate Freddie’s music. Definitely recommended for those days when you need a little bit of upliftment.
