Melbourne-based duo, FancyNormal (aka Noni & Jules) released a new pop single called, “FIASCO”, which at first glance might seem like an anti-love song but is more about the unbiased view of a real relationship. With hard-hitting lyrics, infectious guitar riffs, and lush vocals, all adhering to a core pop-EDM structure, the duo has created a sparkly and upbeat track that is very danceable!
“FIASCO” starts with a deep kick and a hard bassline that fused with a muted electric guitar rhythm forms a groovy loop that accompanies strong vocals. With a few elements that might remind you of 70s disco and 80s pop, this track features addictive melodies and a chorus that you might end up singing along with by the end.
Jules’ vocals on “FIASCO” have a Britney Spears-like tone and similar lively energy as well. Their lyrics revolve around how relationships lack communication and how one should try understanding their significant other more; very honest and relatable – “can we take a moment just to breathe, let’s stop the second-guessing”. It evokes feelings of uncertainty and optimism at the same time, in the sense that it has the potential to make you consider contemplating your past decisions and yet is hopeful.
Influenced by the likes of Carly Rae Jespen, M38, and Ralph, FancyNormal’s sound is refreshing and cheerful, and the electronic elements give it a nice modern touch. Since 2020, they have released a lot of music and I’m looking forward to hearing what else they have in store for the fans!
