Ellis Newman – Overrated | Verismo

Ellis Newman uses an eclectic, authentic approach to her songwriting. She writes catchy tracks that invites her listeners into her sanctuary where she embraces her introversion and shares her feelings of discomfort. Newman uses this authentic nature to be more real with her audience, even being true to herself in the process.

Overrated is sort of social commentary on how social media itself is so overrated. Ellis Newman talks about how people live their lives online, and how everybody has adapted their lives to what they want to showcase online with strangers. She goes on to say that life is so overrated, mostly because of how superficial things have become.

Ellis Newman makes use of some classical pop instrumentations, using heavy beats, synths and what sounds like a piano along with some light percussions to create her soundscape. Overrated has all these elements and also adds social commentary which really drives home Newman’s point.

I really rate this track and think that Ellis Newman is here to help people realise that there’s so much more to life than living online (yes, how boomer of me). I can’t help but agree with Newman! She does such a brilliant job with her music! Look out for more music from Ellis Newman! She’s recording more stuff to come out later this year! In the meantime you can always stream her currently released music!

I listen to and make silly noises while analysing why people behave the way they do.
