Bad Person is both a confessional and a song of personal liberation, with singer-songwriter Garvie coming to terms with the fact that he can’t please everyone, much less naggy ex, and embracing his sense of self. A tongue-in-cheek track that must have been a whirlwind of fun to make, it makes use of exaggerated bass riffs and a funky melody to accentuate its message. Garvie even infuses his synths with videogame chiptune, which goes a long way tying in with its 8-bit style music video – nostalgic imagery for nostalgic 80s pop debauchery. A cute and peppy debut, it sets the stage for Garvie’s creativity to flourish going further.
